Acupuncture for Menopause

Menopause is a natural, anticipated event in every woman’s life, an inevitable part of the reproductive life cycle. It is typically defined by the cessation of a woman’s menstruation for 12 consecutive months.

Due to the our extending life expectancy an increasing number of women are in this transition period.

On average, approximately 3 years prior to and 5 years after the menopause, women can experience a wide range of negatively life impacting symptoms.

This includes vasomotor symptoms (including hot flushes and night sweats), vaginal dryness, sleeping disorders, sexual dysfunction and urinary problems.

The aetiology of Hot flushes from a Western medicine perspective remain an enigma with varying conjectures presented.

As a result and recent concerns over the safety of HRT, more and more patients are looking for a natural alternatives. Which both acupuncture and reflexology can play a part in supporting them.
